On March 18, 2026, I lost my mother, Yvonne “Magwood” Burks. She was a lifelong caregiver—a woman who raised five children and never met a stranger she wouldn’t feed, shelter, or love. Born in Elba, Alabama, she passed away because of the very system meant to protect her—our healthcare system. My mom fell through the cracks. So I started The Yvonne Legacy Foundation to carry her spirit forward, offering safe housing, dignity, and unconditional care to the very people the system overlooks, including Veterans, People Experiencing Homelessness, LGBTQIA individuals, those battling addiction, and the elderly and disabled—just as it overlooked her.
